Arts Thread Selects at designjunction
This September Arts Thread joins forces with designjunction to promote the work of 20 new designers from around the world – work that ranges from furniture and lighting to craft, jewellery and interior textiles.
See all 20 designers here.
Arts Thread Selects at designjunction has been co-curated by Louisa Pacifico, craft & design expert and owner of the Future Icons Gallery in London alongside Helen Kemp, founder of Just Got Made, a platform to support and connects the maker community in the UK.
Seven of the designers are emerging talents who studied at the Istituto Europeo di Design IED and come from across its campuses in Milan, Madrid, Barcelona and São Paulo.
- Furniture on show includes the American walnut sideboard Illusion by Rotterdam-based Rikkert Leijs, the Marquetry Side Table by Manchester-based Winter and Kurth and bookbinding paper transformed into furniture by Torsten Sherwood, based in London.
- Lighting is represented by works such as the Solana pendant lamp, designed by Muriell Pacheco & Sara Romano from Brazil. The lamp is inspired by the flower of Lobeira tree, found in the Brazilian savannah. Kuniko Maeda, originally from Japan and now based in London, makes delicate recycled paper products such as lampshades.
- Interior Textiles from Chloe and Annie feature bespoke fabric for interiors. Each piece is made with hand cut stencils creating unique oversized prints featuring food and flora. City of Animals by Devanshi Shah is a playful narrative textile collection designed for a wide range of home interiors.
- Craft is represented by makers including Lucy McGrath with her collection of handcrafted stationery and objects that aims to resurrect the traditional craft of paper marbling. Andriana by Anthony Leonsins from Barcelona is a collection of handmade porcelain souvenirs, inspired by the architectural elements of the architect Antoni Gaudi.
